Family old, Family new, who am I?

At the start of the brief I looked at artists Richard Billingham, Nick Waplington, Phillip Toledano, Sally Mann and Martin Parr for family photographs. In my sketchbook are photos of Richard Billinghams work, I really liked the truth and honesty in his work and have found old photos which are quite similar. I looked at Martin Parr and have lots of childhood photos which show a british holiday in my sketchbook. I really liked Sally Mann's photographs as well and found photographs from when me and my sister were young. Sally mann's photos were controversial as her children were made to look a lot older for example holding candy cigarettes, I found photographs of me and my sister dressed in wedding dresses and putting lipstick on each other and thought these images worked really well as a response to her work. That was my starting point for the brief but I left that work at that and moved onto the family saturday instead then.

For family saturday I started comparing what my parents and grandparents did on a saturday compared to what I do. To start I looked at the things that have stayed the same and what we have always done. My grandparents and my mum and auntie always met at the kadomah a restaurant in swansea which has been there for over 50 years, so i thought it would be interesting to look at that because i always remember being taken there when I was younger and its somewhere my family have always met together. Im not sure what to do with the photos though.

In my childhood I remember always being outdoors, I live next to farms and fields and have grown up always being outside. Both sides of my family were farmers. To try and combine this idea I wanted to create something 3D to represent it , so i thought of making wellies ! I've latexed a bottom of a welly to see the effect and so in the half term im going to make a pair, maybe using mod roc or latex again , and maybe stitching words into the latex. Theres a photo of the back of the welly i experimented ,in one of the emails i sent you.

My family always get together with my cousins and grandparents on the weekends for dinner together and food is a big part in my family. So i've taken photos of my family at the dinner table and the food being prepared. I've photographed my nan making the dinner aswel and those images I really liked. Ive mainly focussed on my families recipies and looking at handwritting, as another form of text. I found my grandfathers old wedding cake recipe which is what I used for my print on friday. My grandfather actually made my parents wedding cake so I found some photos of the wedding cake which are in my sketchbook. I've collaged some scans of my grandfathers recipes in my sketchbook too. I think this is the strongest area of my work.

I also have many photos for family saturday and old family photos. My nan gave me an album which has photos of my great great grandmother and grandfather which i have photographed. I was interested in the clothing in the images and how thats changed. I've scanned these photos in but havn't done anything with them yet.
