PROOF Tracey Sanders-Wood PROVE IT: Tony Benn and Tracey Moberly 25 April 2005
TONY BENN: The exhibition is based upon entries in my diaries which recorded incidents which I faithfully set down, little thinking the same words would reappear in this creative form. Tracey is an imaginative artist + the translation of words into images is the inspiration of this remarkable exhibition where a series of sonograms on canvas illustrate the spoken word but give it more significance. The introduction of an artistic dimension in a political record is in itself an innovation that deserves greater understanding. TRACEY MOBERLY: "I am still witnessing the decimation of the mining community into which I was born + schooled. On visits home the social + economic decline of a once thriving town are constantly in my thoughts as are a group of people who then held such great power, + who tore up my nuclear family. When an area established over generations is stripped of its industrial life-force, the migration of its people becomes like a slow wind catching disintegrating dust from the burnt out embers, where once a great fire soared."
