The Foundry - a bar-come-gallery - in Great Eastern Road [sic], Shoreditch, will be opening up its car park, which runs between Rivington Street and Old Street, for a street party from 12 noon to midnight. The free party boasts DJs, bands, lots of games for children, a fancy dress competition and art shows. Everyone is invited to come dressed as a member of the royal family and there will be a prize for the best-dressed guest. Road works contractors, Fitzpatrick, have agreed to their barriers being used to help block off a part of the street Jazz saxophonist Lol Coxhill will be playing along with Bill Baileys, The Libertines, two members of Alabama 3 and underground DJs Deviant Mob. Five pearlies will be entertaining the crowds around a Hammond organ from 5pm. The party is being laid on thanks to kind-hearted businesses who are giving a hand. "The community spirit never died in Hackney," says Foundry manager Tracey Sanderswood. "It's well and truly alive".
