4: THE WORM LADY
Who is she?
Although little is known about London's enigmatic Worm Lady - only a privileged few know her real name - the annelid mistress has spent more than 10 years writing and performing peculiar poetry in bars across london. As her pseudonym suggests, all the Worm Lady's lyrics are inspired by subterranean invertebrates - often eulogising wrigglers for their role in fertilising the soil and combating pollution - her aim being to "raise worm consciousness because, at the end of the day, we need worms more than worms need us", In recent years, her impassioned verse has been brought to life by the haunting, discordant piano of Porno Paul, a charming peddler of grot who never had a music lesson in his life, but whose tinkling provides a perfect backdrop for the Worm Lady's surreal meanderings.
Why should we care? In these celebrity-obsessed days, winning public recognition requires little more than big tits, loose morals and a shameless sense of self-promotion. By contrast, the Worm Lady and her shadowy accomplice are true English eccentrics who should be embraced and cherished, their singular, exceptional work being quite unlike anything else you've ever experienced.
Where is she now?
