Buddies can you spare a dime?
June 30 1988
Can anyone spare a dime? well it's quite a bit more than that actually. Tracey Wood has designs on a two-year scholarship to boost her career, for the opportunity of a lifetime. Graphic artist Miss Wood from the Soth Wales Valleys needs the equivalent of 27,000 dollars in sponsorship to take up the offer of an M.A. course at the prestigeous Cranbrook Academy of Art, Michigan and/or The School of the Arts Institute of Chicago Miss Wood, who is working as a graphic designer at Manchester Open College's Open Learning section illustrating books, says the specialist course could be her making. A former pupil of Heolddu Comprehensive, she completed a Fine Art degree gaining a first class honours.
Miss Wood is currently working in textile art. "I do my own spinning and dyeing from natural products, I'm experimenting with vegetables and insects and make art works from them. "The courses are of a fine art discipline involving fibre, I'd be working with materials. I've also written to several large firms around the country and they haven't got anything to offer. This is a chance of a lifetime for me, the experience I'd gain over there with the various artists would be invaluable. I'd like to come back to this country and work."
She continues: "IF I DON'T GO INTO INDUSTRY I'D LIKE TO DO PART TIME LECTURING AT DIFFERENT UNIVERSITIES AND HAVE MY OWN STUDIO AND HOLD EXHIBITIONS."
