Master Builder Tracey Sanders-Wood Gordon McHarg Colourful bricks used for mosaic October 2000

A Manchester artist has created a brick mosaic on the front of the Aquarius Community Centre in Hulme using Ibstock products. The multi-coloured maosaic measures 19m high and stretches down across the pavement below. It symbolises Aquarius the Waterbearer, the 11th sign in the Zodiac. The artist also included images of motherhood and generation of new life into the design. To be sure residents were involved in the project, more than 30 people visited Ibstock's Hathernware factory to help make the special glazed bricks that were used. A company spokesman said: "It's great that so many people had a chance to contribute to the fabric of their new building."
