Coca-Cola's Nazi Adverts
14-27 May 2004
Riverside Studios in Hammersmith has chickened out of displaying an art exhibition about Coca-Cola's links to Nazi Germany.
The arts centre, close to Coke's Hammersmith-based UK HQ, initially agreed to the planned show which focuses on Coca-Cola's Nazi-friendly advertising in Germany in the 1930's, including it's sponsorship of the 1936 Olympics and the invention of Fanta specifically for the Nazi market. The event was planned by campaigning comedian Mark thomas, who has been gathering material to highlight Coke's connection to more recent human rights abuses around the world.
The art show, which includes work by school children as well as dozens of artists, will now open at The Nancy Victor Gallery in Charlotte Street. The Eye tried to get a response from Riverside but no one returned our call.
