A new exhibition by a Bethnal Green artist looks at the scars left behind by mental cruelty.
As part of the United Nations International Non Violence Against Women Day on November 27, City Hall is staging 'Mental Abuse ... Part 1' by Tracey Moberly.
The exhibition is a series of veiled artworks on miniature canvases, with text that is unreadable without a magnifying glass.
When viewers decipher the text it leads them on a short journey that looks at the hidden scarring that mental abuse victims carry through their lives, long after the torture has stopped. The work brings together debate from women of many different religions and cultures.
The exhibition starts touring at the City Hall before moving to Russia on International Womens day. The Russian Government statistics state that one woman dies every hour because of domestic violence in the country.
Tracey co-owner of the Foundry Gallery in Shoreditch, is currently working on exhibitions with comedian and political activist Mark Thomas, artist and ex-musician Bill Drummond and former MP Tony Benn.
