Under Manchester, miles of tunnel run hundreds of metres down from Salford to Ancoats. The tunnel, a nuclear bunker named "Guardian", runs under the Town Hall and the City Art Gallery. Internationally-renowned artist Doria Hemming born underground on the day of the Hiroshima bomb into a world of clues, codes and secret works with British Nuclear Warheads - secret colourful coded names such as Indigo Hammer, Violet Vision, Orange Herald . . . . . The show is projected along "Guardian" by use of computers, lasers, mirrors, sand and glass to emerge into the basement gallery of CUBE. A civic intestine sewn through with silicon transformations of the Woomera desert, where Doria's youth was spent . . . . .(CUBE, Portland Street, Manchester until 28th May 1999)
