Who are you? Tracey Sanders-Wood, Moss Side Community artist.
Where are you? 3rd Floor, Sankey Soap, Beehive Mill, Ancoats, Manchester.
What do you do? I'm currently writing and coordinating the SOAP project here in Manchester to promote the students and graduates from M.M.U. who've had an effect on our culture; firstly in Manchester, then nationally, then internationally. It's about the people who have, and are, changing trends socially, politically, economically and artistically. For this, I've been organising exhibitions and club nights across Manchester all linked to the Soap project. i also lecture part-time at M.M.U. in all five art and design departments: architecture, history of art; communication media design; fine art and textiles. I'm putting in work for the upcoming 'Give Battle in Vain...' exhibition at the Cube gallery on Portland Street (this April), as a show based around nuclear warfare. the main job I'm doing in this studio right now is a big mosaic for Miles Platting Park.
The next SOAP in your eyes is 9th April '99 - "VIOLET CLUB" NIGHT at V night spot, Deansgate, Manchester 10pm - 3am £5/£3 conc. Set to go with a blast, "VIOLET CLUB" (a British nuclear warhead) follows on from CUBE opening night with Doria Hemming (aka Prof John Hyatt; Tracey Sanders-Wood and Dr. Stephen Twigge) plus MUMBO JUMBO'S resident art lovers, Mr. and Mrs. McClung-Oakes, take a violet perspective into Mumbo space. Mumbo Jumbo's dj's Barney Doodlebug, Daniel Dwayre and Steve Cato bringing you latin, cha cha, bump and grind . . . . .
