Frieze Week Satellite Fair Set for Cavendish Square Car Park
07 October 2014
Geoff Leong joins forces again with the dynamic artist-curator duo Vanya Balogh & Cedric Christie to support this years non-profit exhibition 'WE COULD NOT AGREE' which is held in the 20,000 Sq ft multi storey Q-Park car park beneath Cavendish Square. Featuring over 100 artists in a circular venue, this annual event likes to challenge, entice and entertain all art lovers and visitors. This satellite fair held during Frieze Week is open to the public for 6 consecutive days, it features diverse work in the medium of sculpture, film, photography, painting and site specific interventions, including performative talks and live presentations, with a deliberate feeling for unpredictability and curiosity. Both emerging and established artists are present throughout the event. This year, the show also includes a marble sculpture by Andy Elton in the gardens of Cavendish Square.
Sarah Sparkes has invited each artist to make a life-size three dimensional portrait of themselves as a toy. The works will be displayed collectively as 'The Hollow'; Pascal Rousson gave an open brief to artists he thought would think in a challenging way in terms of sculpture installation; Cedric Christie felt that the idea of inviting in an artist, Bernd Kaiser, to curate a group of their contemporaries without relationship to the other curators would bring a different energy to the whole project and an energy between the works; Roger Clarke selected artists spanning film, photography, sculpture and installation, whose work he thought would sit well both in the particular context of this space and each other; Alice Herrick chose artists with a sense of the curious in film, photography, sculpture and installation, most of whom have exhibited at Herrick Gallery; Rebecca Scott selected her artists for an interesting dialogue with the interior of the Car Park, focussing on sculptural / fabricated works relating to Rebecca's own practise. Vanya Balogh invited artists with his son Eddie, by playing a game of pulling names randomly out of the curatorial hat & giving Lady Luck a chance to decide on the outcome. Mark Woods approached artists known & unknown to him, appearing disparate as a group, so that they could not agree. Tracey Moberly selected her artists & photographers in part based on their challenging socio- political responses to any given brief along with their unique design insights.
