BAR OF THE WEEK: THE FOUNDRY
20 April 2003
Look: party house for very young people. the walls are covered with drawings of nudes; dolls limbs hang from the ceiling; broken office chairs; large poster declaring, WARNING - WE WANT TO EXPLOIT YOU. Gimmick: You can hold a free art exhibition here as long as you haven't displayed in London before and don't have a grant from the Arts Council. Clientele: Hoxton cool meets genuine boozers. A glass of champagne: don't even ask. soundtrack: eclectic. Easy-listening radio 2 collection, disco and hardcore garage. Signature drink: Eco warrior, £2.60 - organic pale ale made by Pitfield's just around the corner. Standing-room only: no. Definitely a niche market. Spiritual home of: urban Swampy. Don't ask for: obvious charm. LB The Foundry 84-86 Great eastern street, London EC2 (020-7739 6900)![]()
